Evaluation of Micro-tensile Bond Strength after Pretreatment of Dentin with Various Natural Bio-modifiers

Abstract

Purpose: This study was performed to evaluate the effect of various natural dentin bio-modifiers on micro-tensile bond strength and mode of bond failure after being subjected to pH cycling. Material and methods: Sixty sound human molars were used in this study. Teeth were divided into3 main groups (n= 20) according to the bio-modifier agent used. Group 1: Teeth treated with 1% nano pine bark extract gel. Group 2: Teeth treated with 1% nano lycopene extract gel. Group 3: Teeth treated with Quaternary ammonium silane (QAS). After one-month storage in artificial saliva, each group was subdivided into two subgroups, half of specimens were subjected to pH cycling, while the other half was not subjected. All specimens were subjected to micro- tensile bond strength test. Results: The highest micro-tensile bond strength was recorded with group treated with 1% nano pine bark either subjected to PH cycling or not subjected. Regarding subgroups subjected to pH cycling ;1%nano lycopene group recorded the highest micro-tensile bond strength, while the least results were recorded for the QAS group. Regarding subgroups received no pH cycling, QAS group recorded the highest micro-tensile bond strength, while the least results were recorded for nano lycopene group. ANOVA test showed a statistically significant difference between groups. Tukey’s post hoc test showed a statistically significant difference between all groups. Conclusion: The used natural dentin bio-modifiers enhanced the micro tensile bond strength, furthermore 1% nano pine bark has the superior effect on the micro tensile bond strength
