Evaluation of Two Adhesive systems on Push-out Bond Strength of Resin Composite Post in Primary Anterior Teeth

Abstract

Purpose: This study aimed to assess the push-out bond strength of resin composite posts to intracanal dentin in primary anterior teeth using various adhesive systems. Materials and Methods: Twenty-six anonymized maxillary primary anterior teeth were randomly assigned to two groups (n=13): Group A: treated with OptiBond™ eXTRa Universal Bonding, and Group B: treated with Beautibond Universal Agent. The coronal third of the root canals was filled with resin composite, and a push-out test was performed using a universal testing machine. Intergroup comparisons were made using an independent t-test, with statistical significance set at P ≤ 0.05. Results: Intergroup comparison revealed no statistically significant difference in push-out bond strength (P = 0.143). The highest bond strength was observed with OptiBond™ eXTRa Universal, followed by Beautibond Universal Adhesive, with a mean difference of 0.33 ± 3.05. The failure mode distribution showed no significant difference between groups (P = 0.7211Mixed failure was the most common mode, followed by cohesive failure, while adhesive failure was the least frequent. Conclusions: OptiBond™ eXTRa Universal showed slightly higher push-out bond strength compared to Beautibond Universal Adhesive; however, the difference was not statistically significant. Both adhesive systems are effective options for restoring primary teeth with short resin composite posts, offering benefits like simplified clinical procedures, reduced technical sensitivity, and ease of application.
